ReFocusing Leaders - Japan

The ReFocusing Leaders training is geared for a process of learning, rather than being event-oriented. It takes place at multiple levels. Each network is a peer-learning community where leadership development takes place through discovery-based learning in a safe-place learning environment with others who are also working in cross-cultural ministry.

The initial pilot course was held at TEAM Center in Tokyo on February 12-13, 2009. The results were so positive that it was decided to start a full, one-year course. For this yearlong experience all of the participants will gather for 4 two-day network retreats. In 2009 these will be held on Friday-Saturday from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. From this successful pilot a new ReFocusing Leaders network will begin and run from May 2009 through early 2010. The network will consist of four two-day retreats to be held on the follow dates: May 22-23, September 18-19, November 13-14, and two days in January or February 2010 to be announced later.

Between each of these two-day retreats, participants will meet in small groups for further processing of what he or she is learning. It will be a great time for mutual encouragement and accountability. Each participant will also receive personal coaching from a member of the facilitation team.

The ultimate outcomes of the ReFocusing process are missional leaders who impact people, congregations and organizations that engage their world from a Kingdom perspective. In order to do this, it is our desire that each participant (1) write and implement his or her own Intentional Learning and Development Plan based on what they have learned during the course of training and (2) we on the Facilitation team, the small group facilitations, and other participants will all assist each participant to adapt that Plan to the participant's own unique situation and to encourage them as they implement it.
